Trained under his father, Cantor Ivan Perlman; was appointed as Cantor, Spiritual Leader and Director of Education at Temple Am David in Warwick, Rhode Island on December 1, 2000.
Under Cantor Perlman’s leadership since that time, Temple Am David has been steadily growing. Cantor Perlman has been acknowledged as a respected community leader. Our congregation has grown to well over 200+ very happy family units. Our religious school increased in student population from 37 children to over 80 children enrolled this past school year. Our congregation has developed a reputation among the community as caring, safe, warm and friendly and we are very proud of the quality of full service educational and spiritual services we offer in RI and will continue to offer.
“Cantor Rick” has been a soloist and a member of duets, quartets, and quintets including “The Cantors Five” in several cantorial concerts and worship services throughout the United States. He has led services at Congregation Beth Israel in Bath, Maine and at Temple Beth David in Narragansett, Rhode Island where he served as the Cantor for almost ten years. Rick taught Jewish studies in the South County Hebrew School and has been a visiting lecturer at many senior social organizations as well as the Leisure Club at Temple Emanu-El in Providence.
He serves on the staff of the Rhode Island Harry Elkin Midrasha, Temple Am David Adult Education Program, and the Rhode Island Gerim Institute. He is the past long time serving, Chairman of the Bureau of Jewish Education of Rhode Island’s Principals Council. He sits on the board of directors of the Jewish Seniors Agency of Rhode Island, and is a member of the Touro Fraternal Association and the Coalition for the Advancement of Jewish Education (CAJE). He is a past member of the Board of Directors of the Jewish Federation of RI the Rhode Island Bureau of Jewish Education, the RI Holocaust Memorial Museum and the JCC of RI.
Cantor Richard Perlman(www.cantorsperlman.com) and his wife Catherine “(Kit)” are the parents of Jessica, Michael, Owen and Kristina.
