On
Wednesday evening July 25, 2007, the Temple Am David board of Directors (during
a special session) voted unanimously to elect Richard E Perlman as their Spiritual
Leader for "life" by awarding him a long term contract officially
naming him as such. The Board added 15 years to the existing 2 years remaining
on the cantor's current contract (total 17) and added an optional "renewal"
after the 17 years are completed.
RICHARD E. PERLMAN Trained under his father, Dr. Cantor Ivan Perlman; was
appointed as Cantor, Spiritual Leader and Director of Education at Temple
Am David in Warwick, Rhode Island on December 1, 2000. This new action taken
by the board of directors assures that Richard Perlman will remain as Spiritual
Leader, Cantor and Education Director for many years to come.
Under Perlman's leadership along with dedicated Lay Leaders, Temple Am David
has been steadily growing. Richard Perlman has been acknowledged as "a
respected community leader" said temple president Richard Levenson. "Since
his original appointment as our spiritual leader, our congregation has continued
to grow each year". Levenson continued, "Our religious school has
increased in student population each year as well. Most of our school graduates
continue their Jewish education at the Harry Elkin Midrasha community Jewish
High School after they graduate from our school because of the great education
foundation they receive at Am David. Our congregation has developed a reputation
among the community as caring, safe, warm and friendly and we are very proud
of the quality of full service educational and spiritual services we offer
in RI and will continue to offer under the leadership of our new Spiritual
Leader for "life".
